# Rewards

> Two ways to earn on Calibri — market-maker rebates for providing liquidity and referral rewards for bringing traders. Both are a share of the taker fee, accrue live, and are paid by a daily sweep.

Calibri pays two kinds of reward, both funded out of the **taker fee** on a
trade. They **accrue live** as you trade and are **paid out once a day** —
independent of whether the market has resolved.

* **Maker rebate** — When **your resting order gets filled**, you earn a share of the taker's fee — **15%, 20% or 25%** depending on the market's category. This is the reward for **providing liquidity** — quoting a price and waiting for someone to trade with you. Full mechanics, rates and worked examples: [Maker rebates](/concepts/maker-rebates).
* **Referral reward** — When someone **you referred trades as the taker**, **you (the referrer)** earn a share of the fee they paid. Tied to your referred members' taker activity.

## Both are a share of the taker fee

| Reward | Who earns it | Based on |
| - | - | - |
| **Maker rebate** | the **maker** — the resting (non-taker) side of the fill | a % of the taker fee on that fill |
| **Referral reward** | the **taker's referrer** | a % of the taker fee on the referred taker's fill |

Because both are a percentage **of the taker fee**, and the fee follows the
`P × (1 − P)` curve, both rewards **inherit that curve**: largest on coin-flip
prices, near zero at the extremes, and zero on a trade that pays no fee at all
(a fee-free category — see [Fees](/concepts/fees)).

<Note>
  Rates are set **per market category**. The maker rebate is **20%** in Crypto, **15%** in Sports and **25%** elsewhere — see [Maker rebates](/concepts/maker-rebates) for the table. Referral rates are published in the rewards schedule and shown in-app.
</Note>

## How and when you get paid

The reward flow is deliberately **decoupled from settlement** — you don't have to
wait for a market to resolve to get paid.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Accrue at the trade">
    When your trade creates a contract, a reward is recorded as a **pending**
    entry. No money moves for the reward yet — only the taker fee moves at trade
    time.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Watch it tick up live">
    Pending rewards are readable in near-real-time via the **rewards / pending**
    endpoint, so a market maker can watch their pending balance grow as they
    quote. The response separates the two sources:
  </Step>
</Steps>

```json theme={null}
{ "currency": "usdc", "total": "12.35", "maker": "10.00", "referral": "2.35" }
```

<Steps>
  <Step title="Get paid daily">
    A **daily sweep** pays out pending rewards — whether or not the market has
    resolved. A reward earned today is paid the next day. This deliberately
    rewards early and continuous quoting rather than waiting for markets to
    settle.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paid to your Safe">
    Rewards are paid **on-chain to your Safe**. A member with no registered Safe
    yet stays accrued until one exists — nothing is lost.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Minimums

There is **no arbitrary payout floor**. Two real floors exist:

* Sub-base-unit rewards round away at accrual.
* An amount below the network **gas cost** of sending it stays pending and
  rolls into the next sweep — it is never written off.

## What happens if a market is voided

If a market is **voided**, every share pays 0.50 and your taker fee is refunded
(see [Voids and postponements](/non-custodial/resolution#voids-and-postponements)).
For rewards:

* Rewards still **pending** are simply removed.
* Rewards already **paid** are **not clawed back** — you keep them.

## In short

> **Make markets, earn a rebate.** When your resting order gets filled, you earn
> a share of the taker's fee. **Refer traders, earn a share** of the fees on
> their trades. Rewards **accrue live** and are **paid out once a day**, whether
> or not the market has settled, landing in your Safe once the amount clears
> gas. Void a market and you get 0.50 per share, your fee back, and keep any rewards already paid.
